2022 Chardonnay
The Captain
Captain Matthew Flinders chartered much of the Australian coastline before stumbling across Kangaroo Island in 1802 and naming it after the large number of native kangaroos he saw on landing. The cool, maritime conditions on Kangaroo Island, along with ancient soils allow for a slow even ripening which is perfect for this 'Reserve’ Chardonnay.
It shows an array of tropical fruit aromas, subtle oak and an elegant fruit driven palate, with grapefruit-like acidity.
A charming golden hue lends beauty ahead of a whorl of sea spray and oyster shell notes, freshly cut green apple, lemon zest and white florals. Helical, there's shape and form here with subtle yoghurt and panna cotta characters spiralling forth and rounding out sharpness of acidity. Some rockmelon and grapefruit pithiness builds. It's got weight but remains limber. A polished and well-crafted wine.
