A true family affair
Named after a nearby coastal landmark, False Cape vineyard on Kangaroo Island was established in 1999 together with our winemaking family, the Folletts of Lake Breeze Wines in Langhorne Creek. Combining third generation grape growers and third generation Kangaroo Island Sheep farmers.
Located on the banks of the Willson River on the Dudley Peninsula between Penneshaw and Cape Willoughby, it’s location was selected for it’s ideal soil conditions. Boasting a north facing slope containing Terra Rosa soils over limestone and the Willson River flat with fertile dark alluvial soils making it the ideal conditions for growing quality fruit.
Today our vineyard covers over 70 acres making us the largest vineyard on Kangaroo Island. We take pride in looking after our natural surroundings and as a result, grow our vineyard as naturally and organically as possible ensuring a sustainable vineyard. Our range of wines includes the Kangaroo Island Wine of the Year, Captain Cabernet Sauvignon and Kangaroo Island White Wine of the Year, The Chardonnay.

We hope you enjoy our wines as much as we enjoy making them!

False Cape Proprietors
Building a wholesome, sustainable vineyard through natural practices such as…
our reds are dry grown ensuring yields are kept low with concentrated, intense flavours
our farm is entirely off the grid and runs on solar power alone
free range turkeys roam the vineyard for pest control purposes
sheep are used during winter months for weed management and to encourage soil biodiversity
the vineyard is netted each year to prevent damage to the fruit caused by birds prior to harvest
Award winning winemaker, Greg Follett of Lake Breeze Wines is Julie’s brother and naturally, the winemaker of False Cape Wines!
Greg is a hands on winemaker, preferring to spend his time in the winery and walking the vineyards. He graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College with a degree in Winemaking in 1990 and over the next few years, worked several vintages in Australia, California and France. He returned home in 1992 to commence making wine in his family’s now very well established winery, Lake Breeze (click on link).
Greg has an impressive track record with lots of trophies and gold medals for his wines, too numerous to mention! What we really love about Greg however is his underestimated charm until he’s handed a microphone and his refreshing honesty…known to confess that he’s still winging it!
When you sample a False Cape Wine, you’re drinking a labour of family love.
Nick Walker and David O’Leary
False Cape Willson River Riesling’s first vintage was 2018 and naturally we chose O’leary Walker Winery of Clare to hand craft our Kangaroo Island grapes. Nick Walker winemaker has an infinity with Kangaroo Island with a holiday house at Emu Bay and was keen to experiement with cool climate riesling berries “Nick’s philosophy is pretty simple, make the best wines possible from the best vineyard sites, and leave a little time for fishing”.
The 2021 vintage received 94 points from James Halliday Wine Companion.
Our son Coby is qualified in Viticulture and Winemaking. He loves coming home to go fishing, playing with our Jack Russel dogs and helping us in the vineyard. He has done vintages at Lake Breeze Wines at Langhorne Creek, Gemtree Wines at McLaren Vale, Shaw and Smith in the Adelaide Hills and Kilikanoon at Clare, gathering valuable experience. He is currently in charge of making a sparkling Pinot Noir/ Chardonnay to add to our False Cape Range! We can’t wait!
